Martin Marietta-Denmark Mine

Martin Marietta operates a sand and gravel mine and limestone quarry operation in Denmark Township, Washington County. The site is located on 87th Street and has been in operation since 1939. The site is regulated at the federal, state and local-level, including land use permits from Washington County (Conditional Use Permit) and Denmark Township (Interim Use Permit) authorizing the removal, processing and washing of sand, gravel, and limestone, recycling of concrete and asphalt products, and the sale of products.
On an annual basis, if blasting is anticipated to occur, Martin Marietta will mail a letter to property owners within one-mile of the quarry at least 10 days prior to the first blast. The letter will include a map of the notification area. Property owners must respond in writing to be added to the notification list and are given the option to be notified by text or email prior to each blast.
The notification list will be ongoing year to year with the ability to opt-out of future notifications.

Rumpca Excavating
Rumpca Excavating Inc. operates a limestone quarry in Denmark Township. The mine encompasses approximately 80 acres on property owned by Magone Farms. The Site is permitted by Washington County and Denmark Township. The Primary activities at this site include stripping topsoil and overburden, blasting and removal of limestone, crushing and screening to produce various limestone products, recycling of asphalt and concrete into aggregate products, stockpiling and reclamation activities. The Site is to be mined in three phases. Phases vary in size from 23 to 26 acres. The Site has one access point on 80th Street South located just east of Oakgreen Avenue South. Trucks exit the Site and travel on 80th Street South for approximately 200 feet and then turn north on Oakgreen Avenue South to 70th St, County Road 20. County Road 20 is a 9-ton road. This route is only varied for hauling destinations within Denmark Township.
Blasting is performed to break the consolidated limestone bedrock into pieces that can be handled with mining and processing equipment. Blasting is performed by an independent explosive's contractor. Blasting is conducted approximately once per month throughout the construction season. Blasting is conducted between hours of 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday. Adjacent property owners who have requested notification are notified a minimum of 24 hours prior to each blast. Explosives of any kind are not stored at the Site.
